As you already know, our school has bought iPads for our students next year. In an effort to enhance student learning, increase parent communication, and allow for open forum discussion I challenge YOU to help design an application that can be opened on iPads and iPhones.
Our app should offer the following features....
Basilica information
News and announcements
Calendar and Events
Photos
Schedules
Parent/Teacher/Student Communication
Who knows, maybe you app will be selected for our school! With you help we can get the most from our new technology!
Please watch the following video on how to create an App with appsbuilder.com

6th: Today in class we will begin to build our websites (woo hoo!). The majority of the class will be spent doing some good, old fashioned, hands-on learning. You will be clicking through designs, templates, fonts, colors, etc. as you lay down the design foundations for your website. Remember to think about what will be most visually pleasing and easy to navigate for your customers. Your website must include this information.

Hello!
As you May 13th is Mothers Day. Today we are going to create a bookmark for our Mothers and grandmothers in Microsoft Word. We will begin by opening a new document and setting it up into three columns. Next, we will copy and paste the template below into each of the 3 columns. You will complete each line of the poem to describe your mom/grandma. Obviously, you will change out 'Mom' for Grandma/Abuela/etc.
After we have written our three poems you will open your picture and upload it onto each of your 3 book marks. You will format the font size, color, and style so that your poem appears beautifly oon your book mark. I will print out your book marks on the color printer and we will cut and laminate them so that they will be ready for a hole punch and a ribbon and will be sent home to your moms next week.
My mom is (two
special characteristics about person)
Mom wonders
Mom hears
Mom sees
Mom wants
My mom is (first
line of the poem repeated)
Mom pretends
Mom feels
Mom laughs
Mom worries
Mom loves
My mom is (first
line of poem repeated)
Mom understands
Mom says
Mom dreams
Mom tries
My mom is (first
line of poem repeated)

Today we will be working on creating out very own websites. MAny websites are designed in html format. This is a type of coding that makes colors appear red or blue, text aligned in the center or on the right, headings large or small, etc. Please watch the video below on how to create a website using html coding in the most basic application on any computer.
We will start our web design exploration using a hot site that shortcuts the html coding. Please view the tutorial below about creating websites using wix.com,
After watching the Video, we will be creating our VERY OWN websites. It is your responsibility to write down your URL on a piece of paper for me to visit to grade. We will be working on these sites for the next few weeks. Our websites will have a very specific purpose, but for today we are simply going to experiment with the features of the site. So explore, discover, and click around to find out how to create backgrounds, headings, text boxes, pages, etc. HAVE FUN!
Today we are going to explore forms of energy! Please click the links below to play the games! Dont forget to check out the quiz that is paired with each game : )

Today we will be playing some AWESOME learning games in Computer Lab to help us prepare for our Iowa Assessments. At 2:45 we will stand to pray and be dismissed out back by Mrs. Harris. Mrs. Harris knows that you are expected to wait in our usual location for your parents to come and get you. You will not leave without telling Mrs. Harris first. Remember that it is important for us to show off what independent, self-controlled, third graders we are! Have a great afternoon and I will see you tomorrow! : )
Click on the Links below to help us prepare for our Tests next week!
Today we will be working on creating a Technology Notebook in Microsoft Office's Excel. We will then create a "dictionary" of technology terms in the program. We will practice basic data entry, sorting, merging, formatting.

Our Technology terms and definitions are below. Each term must be entered into it's own cell followed by the definition in the neighboring cell, lastly an image in the third cell.

What is SOPA? Spanish soup- yes. But SOPA stands for the Stop Online Piracy Act. SOPA's sister, PIPA, is not related to Prince William's wife. It stands for the Protect IP Act.
Imagine what life would be life without websites like Google and Wikipedia. Yesterday, January 18th, there was an internet black out when many sites chose to protest these two acts. Wikipedia SHUT DOWN for the entire day.
Read up on the information and be informed because this affects you. I tried to gather as much unbiased information as possible for you to educate yourself. Wether you support the Acts or not is not what I care about. I expect that you will become informed about the details that affect YOUR LIFE.
Read the following articles and watch the clips below. We will then have a discussion for and against the Acts.
6th and 8th: In order to gain a better understanding of where we are with Microsoft Power Point please watch the 6 minute video and then complete the short survey below. Upon completing the survey, we will spend some time discussing the essentials of Word. (it is extremely exciting, prepare yourself....)
Today will also be creating a slide show about Martin Luther King Jr. You can watch the clips below, to help prepare your slide show. All other information should be gathered from the internet.

Play FunBrain's Change Maker to practice making change for different amounts. Students may work at different levels of difficulty.
Play FunBrain's Penguin Waiter to practice using percents to compute the correct tip for dinner checks. Four levels of difficulty make it possible to meet the varied needs of learners in a class.
In Little Finger's Cents Game students must count the coins shown, then enter the total value in the on-screen calculator.
The Practice Counting Money Game requires students to drag coins onto the table to make the correct amount. In the easy version, a "helper" totals the amount as each new coin is added for immediate feedback on independent practice.
Discovering Coin Values requires students to drop coins in the cup to make the correct amount of money.
In Piggy Bank, coins fall and students must click on the correct coins to make the stated value before one of the columns fills to the top. Each correct solution puts money in the bank and if the student fills the bank, he/she wins the game. Easy (on-screen tab of coin values) or hard (student must keep tab of coin values) are available.
In Cash Out!, students must click on the correct coins to make change for each customer's purchase.
NLVM's Money has three different games involving coins and bills.
Scottie Nickel's Change Maker requires students to calculate the value of the coin collection, then deposit that same amount using the fewest number of coins.
The U.S. Mint's Making Change allows students to use tools to create their own coin with image, top and bottom text, mint, year, etc. Students may print their coins.
Visit the U.S. Mint for additional coin facts and activities.
